Why glow-worms?
Glow-worms, the fascinating light-emitting beetles, are disappearing from London’s landscapes. Once common in railway corridors, churchyards, and chalk grasslands, these tiny creatures are now struggling due to habitat loss. At London Wildlife Trust, we’re working hard to restore their fragile homes through surveys, volunteer training, and habitat enhancement but we need your support.
The challenge
On Sunday, 27th April, Daniel and Duncan will run an incredible 26.2 miles through the heart of the city to support our conservation efforts. Their fundraising will help us monitor glow-worm populations, improve habitats, and ensure these magical beetles continue to brighten London’s wild spaces for generations to come.
Meet the runners
“We’ve been friends for over 30 years, and after many years of confident pub chat about our ‘undeniable’ ability to run a marathon—despite knowing deep down it was probably unwarranted—it’s finally time to step up to the plate! We’re excited to take on this challenge while raising money for a fantastic charity that does incredible work.”
How you can help
Daniel and Duncan’s dedication is truly inspiring, and we’d love for you to show your support. Here’s how you can get involved:
- Donate: Every contribution, big or small, will help protect London’s glow-worms
- Cheer them on: If you're in London on race day, give them a big cheer along the route!
- Spread the word: Share their story and help raise awareness about this important cause.
