London Wildlife Trust and GrowN22 C.I.C. Announce an Exciting Partnership for Nextdoor Nature

GrowN22 C.I.C. and the London Wildlife Trust have entered into a partnership agreement to facilitate therapeutic gardening workshops across the GrowN22 growing remit of community projects in Haringey, North London. Supporting London Wildlife Trust’s Nextdoor Nature Project, working across London to give young people and the wider community the skills, tools, and opportunity to take-action for nature in their local areas.

Together we will offer a series of community workshops focused on conservation, gardening, and wellbeing, providing new learnings and tools to inspire further new connections with nature for the community. The workshops will begin in March 2023 and will run on a monthly basis. We encourage General Surgeries (GPs) to contact us for further details of our unique social prescribing program. More details of the therapeutic workshops will be released soon.

The UK is one of the most nature-depleted countries in the world and research shows 85% of people in nature-deprived areas say more natural spaces would improve their quality of life. The majority also say that having access to local natural spaces is more important post-pandemic. Community gardening for wildlife and connecting with nature locally is a wonderful way to take action to help nature's recovery in our city. Nextdoor Nature aims enable people to take steps to tackle the nature and climate crisis whilst also addressing important health and wellbeing needs.

Nextdoor Nature is bringing communities together to help nature flourish where they live and work! Thanks to £5million funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, Nextdoor Nature will provide people with the advice and support they need to help nature on their doorstep, and leave a lasting natural legacy to mark The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

The introduction of therapeutic gardening workshops is an incredible development for anyone tackling anxiety, depression and loneliness; by taking part in The London Wildlife Trust and GrowN22’s workshops volunteers will be able to gain practical skills, meet new friends and have a good time working together. The team at GrowN22 are looking forward to working with the London Wildlife Trust in firmly putting the GREEN back into Wood Green!”.

This partnership is an exciting collaboration for London Wildlife Trust, allowing us to take our resources and learning to the community. We have seen the impact of the wellbeing workshops offered on our nature reserves, and the benefit it has to the physical and mental health of those who attend. This partnership ensures that those who may experience barriers to engagement on our nature reserves, or feel more comfortable learning with their community, have an opportunity to benefit from the connection to nature and learning of new skills. We hope these workshops can inspire members of the community to create their own action for nature, making a lasting difference to nature in our city.
