Stargazing at Walthamstow: Lyrid Meteor Shower
Walthamstow Wetlands,
Walthamstow Wetlands, 2 Forest Road , Walthamstow, London, N17 9NHAbout the event
What’s a shooting star? is there a difference between a meteor, a comet and an asteroid? Where do they all come from? Stow stargazers' astronomy enthusiast Michael Lomotey will introduce us to what are known as "Near Earth Objects" or "NEO's", in the night sky, with a focus on the Lyrid meteor shower - the oldest recorded meteor shower still visible today!
The evening will culminate in an exclusive guided walk through the reserve (weather permitting) with a chance try see some of the meteor shower which is peaking that week. The walk will take place regardless of the weather and night sky conditions, and is a chance to enjoy this wonderful urban nature reserve after hours.
Bring binoculars and a red-light torch if you have them and wrap up warm for your exclusive evening tour. All profits from this event are invested into London Wildlife Trust’s work to promote nature recovery in London for a thriving city, with wildlife in everyone's neighbourhood.
Stowstargazers brings people together to enjoy nature whilst experiencing the night sky. We have a passion for sharing knowledge and advice on all aspects of stargazing, learning together what is on show and giving tips for how to view the celestial sights. Michael has been an avid hobby astronomer ever since being captivated by the milky way as a child. @stowstargazers
