Craft, culture and conservation walk at Dulwich Woods
About the event
On this walk we explore the way humans have practiced woodland management over the centuries. In interacting with trees and harnessing their different properties, people develop skills and create objects, knowledge and culture. Focusing the conversation on cherished species like oak and ash, this walk sheds light on where craft and conservation collide and collaborate.
This walk is led by Rianna Badesha, Engagement Officer for Dulwich Woods in collaboration with Mike Groves, a practicing woodturner with a background in archaeology. Crafting one-off pieces and commission-based batches from locally sourced London timber, his work explores the relation between people and trees through the objects we create from them.
Meet for the walk at Sydenham Hill train station car park. Please dress appropriately for the weather and note, the wood has many uneven surfaces, so stout footwear is recommended. This walk is for adults and children aged 11+. Children must be accompanied by an adult. If you need to contact us on the day of the walk please ring 07483 095 984.
This is a free event but donations are welcome, with all profits are invested into London Wildlife Trust’s conservation and education work and the care of its nature reserves.
